TWO CRAZY DAISIES
Fabulous Handbags
One spring evening while sipping margaritas, the idea for TWO CRAZY DAISIES was planted by two working moms from Riverside, Illinois. The gals, an interior designer and an attorney, were looking to add a little creativity to their busy lives and, of course, a little extra dough in their pocketbooks. Both adored textiles and ribbon, so they decided to bring the two together to make limited edition handbags.
“Our purses are classic, beautiful, and whimsical all rolled up into one!” enthuses Mary Margaret Collins, the fun-loving, generous, and dramatic mom.
“As for the name of the company— TWO CRAZY DAISIES—we wanted something that sounded fun and fresh,” adds Kelly Navarro, the practical, loyal and easygoing mom. “We envisioned an English moniker for two Lucille Ball types.”
Currently, TWO CRAZY DAISIES has 24 delightfully distinctive designs. Playing on the English theme, each tote is named for a Tube stop in London. The “Twickenham” is a splendid blue-and-green toile bag, trimmed with blue checked fabric, ball fringe, and jacquard ribbon. The sporty “Wembly” is orange canvas with daisy, green, and pink gingham ribbons. The “Sussex” features a green-and-black, leaf-toss print with black trim. “Gracechurch” is a very proper ebony-and-ivory tweed.
All the bags are designed by Collins and Navarro and are assembled locally using eye-catching prints embellished with ribbons and faux wood handles. The fabric combinations are rich in texture and color. The vintage ribbons, from the ‘30s and ‘40s, are imported from France and Switzerland. Roomy on the inside, the soft-sided stylish sacks are as practical as they are elegant and accent any wardrobe.
“Our handbags are a cause for conversation and I think really make a great party prop,” says Collins. “No matter where we are or what we are doing, if we have one of our purses someone will ask us where we got it.”
The limited edition handbags are available at select boutiques in metropolitan Chicago and at www.twocrazydaisies.com. The fall collection also includes ribbon belts and watches.
When not designing purses, Collins tends to her husband, five-year-old son, and an interior design business. A graduate of Clarke College in Dubuque, Iowa, she spent nearly ten years in affiliate relations with Tribune Entertainment and WGN Radio. She left in 1997 to become a regional director for Premiere Radio Networks, where she managed affiliate relations and marketing for The Rush Limbaugh Show, The Dr. Laura Schlesinger Show and The Jim Rome Show. These experiences make her uniquely qualified to also handle sales and promotions for TWO CRAZY DAISIES.
Navarro is fulfilling a life-long career goal as a prosecutor for the State’s Attorney’s Office. Prior to pursuing a law degree from the John Marshall Law School in 1996, she worked in marketing at Kraft Foods after graduating from Arizona State University. Navarro is married and has two sons. She lawfully manages the production side of the business for TWO CRAZY DAISIES.
